Green Building: People’s Choice Award

Green Building: People’s Choice Award

We’re honored to announce that the 2013 Green and Solar Tour People’s Choice Award was presented to Desert Rain.  This home, designed to meet the Living Building Challenge, was recognized by the public as the top residential building, based on sustainable features and positive impact to the community. We share this award with COCC’s Science Center  – the People’s Choice for commercial buildings.

Desert Rain Owner Tom Elliot and Builder James FaganThe award is based on votes cast by tour attendees including architects, engineers, home builders, as well as property managers, realtors, school teachers, college students and others in the community that have an interest in green buildings. This year’s tour drew attendees from across Oregon and Southern Washington who voted for their favorite buildings.

The Green and Solar Home Tour

This is the second year that Desert Rain has been on the Green and Solar Home Tour – presented by Cascadia Green Building Council.  Many buildings participate on the tour only after they are completed, but an important part of building the Desert Rain House includes sharing the process with the community. You can learn more about the project through our current projects section as well as on the blog dedicated solely to the Desert Rain project.
